I was apparently under a rock or too focused on work on Tuesday (Oct 3, 06) and missed the post by Emmy Huang pointing out the new beta for Flash Player 9.0.18.60. She has some good info there on the new full screen mode. I think it's great (awesome actually), but really hope web sites don't abuse it (think annoying ads are bad now?).

I found the release notes and had one of those "gulp" moments when I read the hardware requirements. It only lists requirements for Windows Vista (800Mhz, 512MB RAM, 128MB graphics memory) and that's very troubling for me. We develop for a global audience and right now are at a PII 266Mhz with 64MB of RAM and Flash Player 7. Getting folks in developing countries to upgrade to an 800Mhz machine isn't easy so I'm really hoping the requirements for "Windows" (not vista) are more in line with the current Flash Player 9 requirements (PII 450, 128MB RAM).

You can download the new Flash Player 9 beta for many different environments here

and then check out the full screen demo from Owen van Dijk
